First, I want to give Amazon credit for publicizing ALL product reviews and not editing out the less than stellar reviews (Like GuitarCenter does on their website). I think that says a lot about Amazon's business integrity (and maybe something about how they are a big enough retailer to be honest?). Just wanted to give my 2 cents on the NP-30 Yamaha keyboard which I purchased about a month ago. THE GOOD: 76 keys, great piano sound with rich bass notes, light and portable at 12 pounds and runs on batteries, sleek looking instrument at a very reasonable price at $300. THE BAD: the keys are not full size (about a half centimeter shy from one octave to the next, a slight hitch (or soft click) when pressing the keys (I've adjusted to this), the adapter costs extra, no bells and whistles- just a few quality voices and piano pieces in its song bank, and for some ppl, but not me, another con may be that the keys are not weighted in a hammer-action style as w an acoustic piano.
Overall this is a quality keyboard at a good price and would recommend it if you are aware of the above considerations. If you are a piano novice learning correct hand positioning, I would not recommend this keyboard. I play a lot of classical music, and the smaller keys are quite noticeable when playing faster passages as well. I have to make a slight adjustment when transitioning to my acoustic piano. However, I purchased this keyboard over the casio keyboards with the full size keys (essentially), because there is no comparison when it came to sound quality: Yamaha wins hands down. One qualifying statement is that I was looking for a non-weighted keyboard and it was difficult to find one with 76 or 88 FULL SIZED keys with a decent piano sound.
